The legendary Mahsuri Cup

The 22nd Mahsuri Cup 2025 ended successfully with full of excitement, heart thrilling and great bowling. Watched by almost 300 bowlers, supporters and spectators.

In the Cup Section, teams from DBKL- A, Fairul Izwan Abdul Muin (won in the year 2003 and 2006) and Mohd Fairus Abd Jabal (won to the year 2008 and 2013) beat SSMT – A with a convincing score of 16 – 5. They took away the cup, medals and cash of RM3,500.00. Bowls Malaysia President, Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz who watched the finals presented the Cup Challenge Trophy.

Where else in the Plate Section is the team from BSW best MBJ – A with a score of 9 – 4 and in Spoon Section the team SMILE beat XX Langkawi with a margin of 7 – 2. The Plate Challenge Trophy was presented by Patson Bryant, President of Bowls Thailand.

This year 119 teams took part and considered the second largest participation. The records of 124 teams were in the year 2022. Seven (7) countries took part : Australia, Brunei, India, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Thailand.
This tournament also participated by 2 Presidents: Patson Bryant (COCO 1) and Hj. Jaman (TKT BRUNEI) from Thailand and Brunei respectively.

History
Two greens were constructed in the year 2000 with small club house, grand stand and storage for bowls.
These greens under the watch of LADA turned out to become the ground for both local and international competitions.

The First Competition was organized by Bowls Malaysia In 2001. The Merdeka Cup was held in this venue where the South Zone (Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan) emerged the Champion.
In 2002 the North Zone (Perlus, Kedah and Pulau Pinang) took over the realm.

Mahsuri Cup
Bowls Malaysia under the presidency of the late YAB Tun Ahmad Sarji bin Abdul Hamid introduced the Mahsuri Cup in 2003. Bowls Kedah and LADA was given the responsibility of organizing the Mahsuri Cup.
The First Team Champions was Faurul Izwan Abdul Muin and Emma Firyana Saroji in the year 2003. This competition is so special with a playing format of 2:4:2 and it should be a mixed Pairs. But today because of special requirements from enthusiast bowlers it has become an open event.

This year Mahsuri Cup is celebrating its 22nd year of competition.
The name Mahsuri itself has a legendary figure in Langkawi. Known for the tragic tale of her wrongful execution and the subsequent curse she placed on the island.

The Champions
The Overseas Team that had won this Cup. The Philippines pairs of Angelo Morales and Rosita Bradborn won in 2010 whilst the pairs from Thailand Sonthi Manakidpaiboon and Kasanee and Wongsagopa in 2017.
The players who are once champions still playing in this competition include : Zulhilmie Redzuan, Syafiqa Haidar Afif, Nor Shafeeqah Yahya, Abdul Hakim Afif, Fairus Abd Jabal and Ramble Oxley.

Datuk Shukrie Mohd Ali the main person behind the success of this tournament promised that next year more international teams will be taking part.
