A strong and encouraging start for Team Malaysia against Australia in Glasgow, with plenty of positives to take from Day 1.
Our Men’s Pairs got things rolling nicely as Soufi Rusli & Amirul Danial secured a tight win over Corey Wedlock & Aaron Wilson, 5-4, 4-4. They continued to make their presence felt later on, with Soufi teaming up with Idham Amin to deliver another solid victory against Aaron Teys & Aaron Wilson, 7-2, 5-3.
One of the standout performances came from Izzat Shameer in the Men’s Singles, who showed great composure across his matches. He fought back strongly to beat Aaron Teys in tie-breaker (5-8, 6-3, 1-0), and followed it up with another win over Nathan Black, 10-5, 6-6.
On the women’s side, it was a big day as well. Alyani Jamil & Syafiqa Haidar pulled off an impressive win against Australia’s Kelsey Cottrell & Jamie-Lee Worsnop, edging a close contest 5-4, 3-3. Emma Firyana also delivered a standout result, taking down Kelsey Cottrell in a thrilling match, 9-1, 4-8, 1-0.
There were a couple of tough, close losses too. Aleena Nawawi & Syafiqa Haidar narrowly fell to Ellen Fife & Dawn Hayman (4-4, 3-5), while Emma came up short in another hard-fought Women’s Singles match against Ellen Fife (7-5, 3-10, 0-1).
